The cache is a small red Folgers Coffee can and is at an altitude of 5128 ft. The main road (the Alamo Road) is a very good graded road that is safe for passenger cars at least as far as the turn off to the Hidden Forest Road. The Hidden Forest road gets rougher but as of today, a 4WD isn’t necessary…we drive a 2WD Ford Expedition and it was an easy drive.
We placed this cache and the nearby “City View” cache in hopes of getting more people to experience this beautiful natural area. With the exceptional rain we have had this year, the cactus and wildflowers should be spectacular. There is a large variety of blooming desert plants to see as you navigate from the Corn Creek Station to the cache location. Some of the plants you will find are the creosote bush, black bush, Mexican sage, Mohave yucca, Joshua tree, globemallow, desert poppy and brittle bush. There are numerous types of cacti…several varieties of cholla, beautiful clumps of barrels, prickly pear and beaver tail just to mention a few. As with all desert caches, make sure you take the proper precautions and be safe.
At the time of placement, the cache contained: A cache letter, log book and pen, plush angel lamb, Guadalajara leather sandal key chain, lamp key chain, Salt Lake Olympics pin, pterodactyl, flexible pencil, 2 sandal erasers, 3 fruit slice erasers, purple goldfish, yellow porcupine critter, lady bug magnet and a lizard.
