Geocache Description:

A cave?? On Cannock Chase??? Well, no, but that’s what it’s called. Dick Slee was an old hermit who lived with a tame hare in a rough hollow dugout near a spring. This is going back some 200 years, so you can’t see much there now except for the spring (don’t even think of trying it) and some trenches and embankments by a huge and venerable pine tree. And orange marker post number 9.

You could park at Seven Springs, but we suggest you park at the Punchbowl (N52 47.053 W002 01.513) and enjoy all the excitement of the Stepping Stones on your way. However, neither the Stepping Stones nor the ford alongside is particularly buggy friendly! The paths are OK in the main valleys but much rougher when you start to climb.
The cache is in trees (a singular cryptic clue), so GPS is iffy, and we think you might find it easier to go to N52 46.573 W002 00.827 and home in from there. It is a huge open space at the top, big enough for a jamboree and obviously good for a gallop, and well worth a visit in its own right.
The cache container is a white plastic tub with the usual goodies in, though any swaps will have to be fairly small as the opening is narrowish. It is wrapped in a black plastic bag for disguise. It is not at ground level.
