Upper Shannon Falls viewpoint cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Wizard of Ooze: Hello,
I’m a volunteer reviewer for geocaching.com. In a routine check of area caches, I see that your cache has been missing for an extended period of time. The geocaching guidelines include a section on disabled caches: http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=235

Cache owners can temporarily disable a listing, which will take a cache page offline for a short time. Do this if the cache needs repairs, or if the area is closed for a period of time (construction, hunting, winter closures, etc.) This is meant to be temporary, which means a few days, weeks or months.

A listing which is disabled for an extended period may be archived by a reviewer, unless there is some explanation on the listing. If you decide not to replace a missing cache, please archive the listing.

I’ve archived your listing to make way for new, active caches to be placed. If you would like to resubmit a new cache at the location, please feel free to do so and it will be reviewed according to the current geocaching guidelines.

Thank you for your contribution to geocaching,

Geocache Description:

Container is a tupperware type small sealed plastic food container painted mat olive green, with Geocache notice, a few trade items and a few of my cards in it with e-mail address and website on card. Cache hidden in small grove (see photos) on ground under pine needles. Wear gloves to search for cache.

It is a quite difficult 450 m climb over approx 5 kms (each way), over generally good trails, but with some especially steep sections. This is not a "walk in the park". Wear good boots.

Upper Shannon Falls trail is accessed from the Stawamus Chief trail. Park either at Shannon Falls Provincial Park (pay parking) (see photo of falls) or 1.2 kms north at the Stawamus Chief Provincial Park parking area. It's a pretty difficult hike up approx 250 m, 30 or so minutes, to the turn off to Upper Shannon Falls. Despite the sign, the trail is well marked and in quite good condition (July 15, 2007).

There's a very steep section on the second part of the trail. Be careful. After approx 45 mins, you'll come to the upper falls. A few meters further, you'll see the large flat rock in the middle of the creek (see photo). The coordinates here are N49* 40.036 W123* 09.234. Keep walking, you'll see the "Route to Logging Road" sign. From here, you have 15 minutes and 120 m to the view point at the summit (third section). At the summit, the cache is hidden on the ground, in a grove of pines (see photos), under pine needles.

Cache was changed on July 15, 2007.
