Historic Como Park #4:

The Sundial

pic from cpcinc

Also referred to as the "Points of Compass" this life-sized sundial is located at the end of May’s point on Como Lake.  It was designed and constructed by George Nason, Superintendent of Parks in the 1930’s. When you stand on the sundial during a sunny day, you can determine the approximate time of day by observing the location of your shadow.   It’s tricky, but works!

Directly across from you is the Como Lakeside Pavilion.pic The Lakeside pavilion was a former center of activity at "in the old days" and has undergone many renovations since it was constructed. It was once home to the St. Paul Rifle Club, with a rifle range in the basement.   It is now usedfor music and theatrical plays, which are performed on the Lakeside stage. In historical photos, a floating band shell sat in front of the pavilion.   You may rent paddleboats and canoes here on the lower level to cruise the lake, listen to music or just relax.
