Geocache Description:

Total hike is under a km (one way). Nice new trail along a creek created to link two conservation areas. Parking lot is closed in winter but limited parking is available at entrance. Two stages in total.

The TICO series is brought to you by Team TICO, a group of Ontario Geocachers interested in preserving trading caches as part of our hobby. Team TICO feels that geocaches containing interesting and unique trading items are an important and enjoyable part of the whole Geocaching experience. Historically, the original caches were all trading caches. In order to maintain the quality of trade items in caches, we believe that people should leave items of equal or higher value to replace items taken whenever you make a trade. Otherwise the trading items are reduced to an accumulation of “junk” items of no interest to anyone – in essence a dead trading cache. Our motto’s are:

“TRADE UP, TRADE EVEN, TRADE OFTEN” and “HELP KEEP THIS CACHE TRASH FREE”.

Whenever you see our red and black logo on a cache, please remember what it stands for and respect the intentions of those who placed the cache.

This beautiful new trail follows Spencer Creek from a parking lot near Webster’s Falls to Crook’s Hollow Road. You will pass by what looks like the remains of an old bridge and dam.

According to some literature I discovered :

“The first settler to come to the area was an American, Jacob Cochenour, who arrived in 1785. He was granted 200 acres of Crown Land along the Spencer Creek and secured his living as a trader with the neighbouring Indians. Cochenour died in 1819 but left as a reminder the bridge he constructed across Spencer Creek in 1797, and a long line of descendants.”

More information about the settlers in the area can be found here: Crook's Hollow

If you keep walking along Crooks Hollow Road, you will come to the remains of the old Darnley Grist Mill.
