How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Parking/trailhead is at the entry gate to the park. The Rangers would REALLY prefer cachers use the new Rex Derr trail starting from this point rather than bushwhack up from below (which used to be the only approach).

  1. The geocache may be placed on Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission managed property only by written permission from the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission.
  2. The following items shall not be placed in the geocache: Food items; illegal substances; medications; personal hygiene products, pornographic materials; inappropriate, offensive, or hazardous materials or weapons of any type. Log books are required for each cache and are to be provided by the owner of the cache.
  3. It is the visitor’s responsibility to orient themselves with policies and rules pertaining to State Parks areas.
  4. Report any incident, problem, or violation to State Parks staff.
This cache is one of three placed at Pearrygin Lake State Park with the approval and encouragement of the Chief Ranger at the park. In addition to normal Geocachers (is that an oxymoron?) other park guests who have GPSr receivers will be encouraged to seek these hides and may even become interested in the sport. You will need a Discover Pass to find the three caches in the State Park. Former Ranger Rick (Yes, Virginia, there really IS a Ranger Rick) has experssed concern about enviromental damage. While many non cachers undoubtedly are also responsible he has asked us to post additional information as to access to this cache. Start at the trailhead at the former park entry. Almost immediately you will come to a cross trail, continue straight ahead. This trail will take you within 200 feet of the cache (waypoint BW), from there is is an easy, uphill bushwack to the hide. Cache is a large ammo can. Walk is about .35 miles. Try not to trample the wildflowers.
