Geocache Description:

You’ll need a boat, canoe, kayak, jet ski, seaplane or be Mark Spitz to get this one. The closest boat ramp is at 25 Mile Creek State Park, which also has campsites, hot showers, moorage and the last gas until Stehekin. A small store for the little things you always forget is right there too. (Open Memorial Day through the summer).

Deer Point was the site of “Deer Lodge,” the winter range and homestead of Dan Devore, Stehekins’ first and most famous horsepacker. His cabins and the Forest Service guard station are gone now and the site is a Forest Service campground with a boat dock. The Deer Point Fire started here during July 2002, and raced downlake destroying the Adirondack shelter at Mitchell Creek, a few summer homes, many trees then finally threatening Manson and even Chelan. The vegetation is recuperating quickly and Deer Point remains a popular winter range for deer and the newly released California Bighorn sheep.

One area of possible caution:

The 25 Mile Creek Straits can be the windiest place on the lake. It is also the deepest (1500 ft. +). We yearly rescue kayakers and canoers from these waters and frequently see 5-6 foot waves. Some days the lake is like beautiful glass.

Cache is above the area with a beautiful view of Deer Point and Lake Chelan.

We have placed in the cache a Jeep Travel Bug, a pen from the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, a sewing repair kit, and entry log.
