Geocache Description:

Site of one of the many markers for the Mullan Road.

This 624 mile long road was constructed by Captain John Mullan between 1859 and 1862. The road ran from Fort Walla Walla Washington to Fort Benton Montana. Its intent was to serve as a military road to help quell potential threats from Native Americans. It was tested only once for its military usefulness but its primary use came during the gold rushes of Idaho and Montana. There are reports of camel trains that delivered supplies for the opening of the Territory of Montana!
About 1 mile to the west of this marker is Mullan Road Elementary school whose mascot, fittingly enough, is the Trailblazer.
Cache is small so you will need to bring your own pen or pencil.
There is NO need to climb on this monument or attempt to remove any rocks from it.
