Geocache Description:

Situated atop Lincoln Mountain (elevation 10,102 ft) in the Mammoth Mountain ski area.

The cache is on the highpoint. There are outstanding views of Mammoth Lakes and beyond to Mono Lake and the White Mountains. Lincoln Mountain features fine expert runs and superb powder shots, such as Avalanche Chutes 1, 2 & 3.

Nearby is a memorial to a fallen Mammoth Mountain ski patroller. Roy Critton died while setting off avalanche charges here. “Critters” is the ski trail named in his honor. Pay your respects.

Access is year-round. A trail map is useful (www.mammothmountain.com/ski_ride/trail_map). The very top of Lincoln Mountain is wind-swept free of snow in winter. It is then most easily approached on skis or board by Chair 22 and a short walk up. Enjoy the view, and drop into the Chutes or ski down an easier intermediate groomed run. In the summer and fall, hike or bike up.

The cache holds a small log, geo-note, pencil, and flag pins for the first visitors. No stickers please. The container is placed unobtrusively. Please securely rehide it the same way.

Ski/Climb on.
