Loddon Trail Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

MarcoXono: With some regret, I've decided to archive this, my first, cache.
- Both micros have gone missing
- The location of the first micro has been destroyed
- The location of the final cache has once again turned into a vicious thicket of inch-thick brambles
I have retrieved the final cache (Yes - the thorns got me, again!) and will leave the contents in other caches.

Geocache Description:

A tricky Multi, beside the River Loddon.

The River Loddon ("Muddy River") runs from Basingstoke to Wargrave, where it joins the Thames.
In the 17th Century, it was the western boundary of Windsor Forest.
The cache is in an area of parkland close to the river, south-east of Reading.

The cache is a non-linear Multicache.
There are two micros and a main cache.
Total distance is approximately 1 mile, mostly over grass, or on defined paths.
You may want to bring gloves to deal with stinging nettles.

Suggested parking is in Mill Lane, at N51o 25.768 W000o 54.079

The above coordinates are for a sign, "The Riches of the River Loddon".
Use information from the sign to determine the values of A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H, J and K
(each letter represents a different digit):

  • "The bucks were still in use along the Loddon up to the ABCDs"
  • E = the number of blue arrows (main entrances) shown on the map.
Do not include the arrow on the map key.
  • "The floodplain has been affected by the building of the M4 in the ABFDs"
  • G = the number of letters in the name of the creature pictured above the Trout.
  • "The road was turnpiked in the AHth Century"
  • The telephone number for 'Parks and Open Spaces' is shown on the sign.
The digits following the slash ( / ) are JK.
The locations of the micros are:
  • N51o 2C.BCE W000o 5G.BHF
  • N51o 2E.AKJ W000o 5J.DKD
The micros are 35mm film containers, although somewhat disguised.
You will need to find both micros to obtain the location of the final cache.
The main cache is a 1 litre plastic container, wrapped in black tape.

NOTE: Final cache replaced 18/06/2007, by Lotho, "about 5 feet north from the old location".

There is a children's play area in the park. Adults might prefer The George, at Loddon Bridge, north of the park (accessible via footpath).
