GRRPbonus Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

medoug: This series has seen a good run, but it's time to put it to rest since it receives very few finds anymore. Only the GRRPbonus cache is being archived. The other caches in the series will be continued as independent stand-alone caches so lid codes are no longer required. I have retrieved the containers at both stages of this multi so they aren't left as geotrash.

Geocache Description:

GREAT RIVER ROAD PASSAGE BONUS CACHE.
This is a special two-stage multicache marking the successful completion of the Great River Road Passage (GRRP) series of caches. (Additional details about the GRRP series is given further below in the description.)
ONLY ATTEMPT THIS CACHE IF YOU INTEND TO FIND ALL OF THE OTHER CACHES INCLUDED IN THE GRRP SERIES SINCE IT REQUIRES INFORMATION FROM EACH TO OBTAIN THE FINAL COORDINATES.

The GRRP is a series of caches placed along the scenic Great River Road from Dubuque to Marquette, Iowa. Click here to see map. They have been named as “GRRP1…”, “GRRP2…”, etc. (to view all of them, click here or search by keyword “GRRP” on the www.geocaching.com/seek/ webpage). All of the GRRP caches (except for this bonus cache) can be logged as a separate find and may be found in any order.

This “bonus” cache is special in that it can only be found and logged after visiting all of the other caches in the Great River Road Passage (GRRP) series of caches. (I would suggest first finding all of the GRRP caches and the first stage of this bonus cache. Then, after determining the final stage coordinates, make the return trip enjoying the scenic drive and finding the final stage of this cache along the way.)

The first stage of this cache is given by the above coordinates. It is located at a roadside overlook on the Great River Road. This overlook provides a scenic view of Cassville, Wisconsin from the Iowa side of the Mississippi River. This first stage container is a small plastic jar with a set of numbers on the inside of its lid. These numbers are NOT the coordinates for the second stage of this cache but are needed in conjunction with the numbers found on the lids of all of the other caches included in the GRRP series to determine the coordinates of the second/final stage of this cache.

The second/final stage of this cache is located somewhere along the Great River Road between Dubuque and Marquette, IA. (There will be a suitable place to park your vehicle nearby.) The original container was a plastic camouflaged coffee can containing high-quality starting-cache prizes and a $10 prize for the FTF. Please return the container to its hiding place with its opening and lid on top. Here is the method required to obtain the coordinates for the second/final stage of this cache:

You will need to collect a set of numbers (in the format Nyy.yyy Wxx.xxx) written on the inside of the lid from each GRRP cache container including the first stage of this cache. Write down these numbers as you go. I would suggest using the handy worksheet given here. When you get all the numbers, they can be added and used as follows to give you the final coordinates (minutes) for the bonus cache:

The final stage of the GRRP bonus cache are located at the coordinates

N42° YY.YYY’ W91° XX.XXX’

where YY.YYY is the sum of all of the North code numbers (in the format of Nyy.yyy) and XX.XXX is the sum of all of the West code numbers (in the format of Wxx.xxx) obtained from all of the GRRP caches including the first stage of this cache.
