Geocache Description:

Math 301 / PE 101 - G.U.L.Y.

GEO UNIVERSITY at Lake Yosemite (G.U.L.Y.)

There’s a new University in town! NO – not UC Merced, this is Geocaching at Lake Yosemite University. This university offers no degrees, but allows the geocacher to receive up to 8 credits.

This collection of eight caches will hone your skills at finding caches of varying types and sizes. There are micro log-only caches, regular caches, multi-leg caches, puzzle caches, virtual-like caches, offset caches and one unusual variation – a multi-cache combined with an exam. Some of the caches are themed – you will need to bring the appropriate trade items.

The University is open daily from 7:30 am until 9:30 pm in spring. It closes a bit later in the summer and a bit earlier in the winter.

Tuition is $6.00 per car for a daily visit or $50 for a full year of attendance. If you are a senior, the attendance fee is reduced to $25.

When you complete all eight caches successfully and complete the optional pop quiz, you can become a member of the GULY Alumni.

The caches are:

Bobcat (Micro log only cache)
Cooking 101 (Micro, log only cache)
Entomology 101 (Themed regular cache)
Fishing 101 (Themed regular cache)
Fishing 101 Lab (Micro log only cache)
Marine Biology 101 (Themed regular cache)
Math 301 / PE 101 (Puzzle, regular cache, and Travel Bug B&B)
Popquiz (Two-leg multi cache, with an “extra credit” assignment)

Math 301 / PE 101
GEO UNIVERSITY at Lake Yosemite

This is the most difficult cache of the University; you must first solve a few puzzles to get to the proper coordinates.

The cache is a small plastic bottle. (It was changed on Jan 15, 2006 since the prior ammo cans were stolen twice.)

Good luck!

A snail creeps 3 feet up a wall during the daytime. After all the labor it does throughout the day, it stops to rest a while... but falls asleep!! The next morning it wakes up and discovers that it has slipped down 2 feet while sleeping.
If this happens every day, how many days will the snail take to reach the top of a wall 17 feet in height? Enter your answer in positions “Q” and “R”.

A cacher has many socks of several different colors: white, black, brown, and blue. He is leaving before dawn for a long day of caching, but doesn’t want to wake his wife. He stores his socks individually and has to get them in the dark so she won’t wake up. How many socks must he take out of the drawer to insure he has a matching pair? Enter your answer in position “O”.

Last vacation, my cousin came over to stay at my home. We made the most of her stay at my place... and I even earned a few chocolates.
Everyday, we would play a game of caching. Whoever lost the game owed a chocolate to the other. After the last game we played (that was the day she was to leave), we counted the number of games each of us had won and lost. Wow! I had won more than her. So, she handed me 15 chocolates... though she herself was the winner in 11 games.
How many days did my cousin spend at my place? Enter your answer in positions “C” and “D”.

Old Man Cacher spent one-fourth of his life as a boy, one-eighth as a youth, and one-half as an active man. If Old Man Cacher spent 11 years as an old man, then how many years did he spend as an active man? Enter ONE HALF of your answer into positions “E” and “F”.

Last weekend, I went to cache in the nearby park. It was real fun! I rode my new bicycle that Mom had gifted me on my birthday.
On reaching the park, I saw that there were a total of 12 bicycles and tricycles. If the total number of wheels was 32, how many tricycles were there? Enter your answer in position “I” in the coordinates below.

What is the minimum number of bags you will require? Enter your answer in position “G”.

I've got $1.19 in change, and it's impossible for me to make change for a dollar!
How many dimes do I have?
Enter ONE HALF of your answer in position “N”.
