Geocache Description:

A cache that takes you up and down the Colorado Front Range. We live in a great state -- explore it!

This is a cache that will take you to various points along the Front Range. It’s all scenic and the waypoints are spots that carry local significance. You can do the entire cache in one day with a full tank of gas (on the more efficient vehicles), but it might be more fun to spend some time at each of the waypoints and explore. If this is a spot you’ve never been to, you might be surprised what you’ll find here!

Keep all your work. You’ll need to reference old numbers as you work your way forward. Of course if you get stuck, please e-mail me and I’ll be happy to help get you back on track!

Please don’t let the difficulty rating discourage you. Waypoints 1 through 5 are all wheelchair and bicycle accessible. Waypoint 6 is on a trail and will require some ups and downs. It will accommodate mountain bikes, but wheelchairs are not a good idea here.

Waypoint 1:
Go to 40° 00.546 N by 105° 16.405 W. This is the only coordinate you’ll get upfront. The rest of the waypoints you will need to construct from the data you gather. Each consecutive waypoint will include elements of the previous ones until you get to the very end.

Here you can take a break, sit down and ask Robert Frost for help. You can visit this location 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The building is open 7 AM to 9 PM. There’s a small, but very nice museum on the top floor, open from 10 AM to 4 PM Monday through Friday and 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturdays. Stop and check out the historical exhibits. A lot of the things here are one of a kind and relate history dating back over a century!

AA = number of letters in artist’s last name
AB = this piece is numbered, which is it in the series?
AC = how many were made total?
AD = who is the piece dedicated to? – number of letters in his last name?
AE = year of the dedication
AF = number of buttons on Robert Frost’s shirt?
AG = letters in the title of the poem? (ignore spaces)
AH = add up the number of letters in the last word of each of the poem’s paragraphs
AI = How many letters are there in the name of the building behind Robert Frost?

For this next part you’ll need to walk around the building.

AJ = What year were the funds for this building raised?
AK = How many members were on the first board of members/regents? (count board members, not officers of the board)
AL = What year was the Board of Regents formed?
AM = How many members were on the first board of trustees? (count trustees, not officers of the board)
AN = What year was the Board of Trustees formed?

You’re now ready to build the second waypoint. This is middle school math. Don’t worry if you forgot how to use your calculator:

Waypoint 2:
[AB+AH+AJ-AN]° [AA+AC+AG-AK].[AB*AC+AD/(AI–AF)] North by
[AC*AF+AK-AA]° [AB+AC+AH].[AE*(AA-AF)–AK–AL–AN] West

Check the map, get in your car and drive!

The location is open different hours based on the season, but it is open every day of the year. In the summer months you can wander in here 9 AM to 9 PM, daily. The rest of the year you’re limited to the hours of 10 AM to 5 PM. Come early and take a tour. The tour costs money, but if you’ve never been, it’s well worth it!

At the coordinates, you’ll see a sign. Answer the following questions:

BA = How many words are in the name of this attraction?
BB = How many letters are in the name of this attraction?
BC = What’s the temperature?
BD = How many people are on the logo?

On to Waypoint 3:
[BC-BB]° [BA*BD+BB].[AF*BC*BD-AF] North by
[BA+BC*BD-AA]° [AG].[BC*(AC-AF*BD)+BD-AG] West

There’s someone famous here for you to check with. Come close, don’t be afraid. He’s here 24/7 and available for an interview without appointment. After you’re done, you can head west on the road to see where this guy came from. It’s easy to spend a day, a week or a month here and not run out of things to do!

CA = number of letters in the subject’s name
CB = number of letters in artist’s last name
CC = year the subject died
CD = the subject has something on his head; walk around and count the points
CE = how many legs are touching the ground?
CF = three major numbered roads intersect here; what’s the sum of their numbers?

And now you’re ready to find Waypoint 4:
[AF*(BA+BD)+CE*CE]° [CF-(CB*CE+CE)].[BD*CB*CD+CB*AF/BD] North by
[CA*CB+CD*CE-BB/BD]° [AE+BC–CC+CE].[(CC–AN)*CE/AF–CB] West

Here you’ll find a small naval memorial. It’s overshadowed by the much larger significance of the site. You can come here any time of day or night, but if you want to tour the building – and it’s a spectacular tour – you should shoot to be here between 9 AM and 2 PM Monday through Friday. There is no cost for the guided tour. The building itself is open 8 AM to 5 PM, also Monday through Friday, and you can do a self-guided tour during these hours.

DA = How many letters are there in the name of this ship?
DB = What is the hull number of this ship? (don’t worry about the letters)
DC = What year did this ship enter service?
DD = What year did this ship leave service?
DE = How many major conflicts (listed on the memorial) did the ship participate in?
DF = What year was this monument dedicated?

Continuing to Waypoint 5:
[DB–DA+BD]° [DD–DC+AI].[AN*BD/DE–DB–AF+BA] North by
[DF*(AA–AF)–DD–DC–(AC*CA)/(AA*BD)]° [AH–AF].[AF*(BC+CE)] West

Someone famous stands on the corner here. He had a lot of impact on Colorado and his name is a household word. Take a moment to chat with him. Important questions to ask are:

EA = What year was he born?
EB = What year did he die?
EC = How many letters are in his last name?
ED = How many buttons are on his sleeves?
EE = What year was this statue dedicated?

Once you get your answers, consider heading a few blocks east to see the empire this man built. Free tours are available 10 AM to 4 PM Monday through Saturday. And there's a treat at the end!

Now you’re ready to take this cache home. It’s been a long trip and the final leg is in your grasp. You’re going to a park. Park hours are dawn to dusk and trust me, you’ll want to go when there’s some daylight. It’ll make your life a lot easier.

Continuing to Waypoint 6, your final destination:
[DD–EB+EC+ED]° [EE+DD–(EB+AG)*BD].[EE–EC*(EE–EA)–EC*AF*CF/AA] North by
[BB–DC+DE+EE]° [AK*ED*(DF–CC)*(AA-BD-ED)].[AK*(BC–CA–CB+CD)] West

Congratulations! You’ve made it!

The original contents of this cache include:
