Well done everyone who attended. Hope you all had a blast.
Due to the recent flooding and closure of Fish Creek I have had to change the location of the Rally. It will now be held in North Glenmore Park starting about 12 noon. I have booked the Chickadee picnic area which has several tables and a bbq. Bring a picnic lunch and join the fun.. There is also a play area for the kids and washrooms not too far away. There will be prizes, games and a cache or two to find.
Entrance to the park is from 37st. When you come in take the left side at the first fork in the road. Or follow your gps. The area I have is immediately past the maintenance compound on the left. Parking is right across the road. If you can't make it right at 12 noon don't worry. This is not a timed event so you can start when you get there.
This years version of rally round the town will be a bit different than in the past years. Instead of a road rally it will be a poker rally with a nice walk in North Glenmore Park. Each cacher will have to find the waypoints and collect a card from each one. The winner will be the one with the best poker hand. Not too strenuous so bring the whole family. It's a great excuse to spend the day out in the sun and fresh air. There will be a bbq after with lots of chat and stories of fantastic exploits. I also have a couple of other games planned for once everyone is back from the hunt.
Come on out and get some fresh air. Meet some of the local cachers you may not have run into before. Trade stories, tips and tricks. You never know who you'll meet. So mark 17 July on your calendar and plan to attend the fourth annual get together. Keep an eye on the listing for changes to location and other details. See you there.
UPDATE: Well another Rally has come and gone and I hope everyone had a good time. The big winner this year was RedRouge who by some freak of fate or extreme skill, managed to win the poker hand with three 4's, in second place was Ballonatic with 2 pair. RedRouge also managed to clean up in the geopuzzle contest. I think they must practice that stuff at home. The winner of the geoart contest was the Edgemonks for their wonderful depiction of a snail. Way to go guys.
I would like to extend my thanks to a few people who added some extra spice to the event. First off, much thanks to Peanutbutterbreadandjam and Nicolo for donating the premade caches for prizes. They were much appreciated. I would also like to thank Lemon Fresh dog, Capt Cache & Lt Geo and Nicolo for the other caches they placed for the event to give everyone something else to search for on their travels. A great big thanks to A Rae of Cats for the wonderful geocake she baked for us. I'm not sure how Dale ended up with the geocoin though. He must have a nose for them or something. I would like to thank Nicolo for judging the geoart contest. There were some great entries there and I'm sure it wasn't easy for him with all the bribes and threats he received. And finally a great big thanks to all who attended and made the event what it was. I hope everyone had a good time and I hope to see you all next year.
I'm going to leave the cache active for a couple of weeks so people can finish logging it and add photos and stuff. After that time it will be archived but you will still be able to reach it thru your cache stats.
