Geocache Description:

Thurnham Hall – The first part of four in the series “Hall’s well that ends well”

Thurnham Hall dates from the 12th century and was home to the Dalton family. It stands in 28 acres of countryside and was converted to timeshare apartments in 1996.

The cache is located close to the entrance of the hall in nearby Moss Lane where also can be found Abbey Chapter House. The remains of a Premonstratensian Abbey, home to an order of contemplative cannons established 1192. The most visible remains are those of the 13th century Chapter House, reused as a mausoleum by the Dalton family from mod 18th to mid 19th centuries. Outlines of the Abbey buildings can be seen in the adjoining field. Entrance to the Abbey is signposted, it is the round(ish) building next to the farm.

The cache is part way down a footpath. Keep an eye on the kids as there is a ditch running down the side of the path which you have to get pretty close to. Be sure to write down the value of the letter from the container lid to lead you to the final part.
