The Meadowbrook Pond and Reflective Refuge is located on 35th Avenue NE, between NE 107th and NE 110th Streets, across from the Meadowbrook Community Center. Parking is available at N 47 42.383, W 122 17.472. There is a crosswalk from the parking lot to the entrance of the pond on 35th Avenue NE.
Although it is a flood control and water quality project, Meadowbrook Pond is also an art park with sculptural earthworks and art installations using several styles, scales, techniques, and materials. The Reflective Refuge includes diverse native plantings, a wildlife refuge, a pond, Thornton Creek, educational signs, and trails.
The nine-acre site of Meadowbrook Pond was created through the efforts of community leaders, artists, environmental specialists, and Seattle Public Utilities. Although it was completed in 1998, I didn't discover the whimsical features of this location until I found the now-archived "Rusting Knight" cache in 2004. Who knew that storm water detention could be so captivating?
The cache is a nano. Feet will not need to leave the ground nor will hands need to disturb any plantings to reach this cache.
