Geocache Description:

Distance from Entiat to Keystone Point is 3 miles as the bird flies. Actual driving distance is 11 miles from Entiat with a 3000 ft. elevation gain.

In the large photo below, the highest point is Keystone Point. It was taken from across the Columbia river north of Orondo. Notice Numeral Mt. directly below.

A Firewatch Lookout located at Keystone Point was manned in the 1930's until the 1960's. It was disassembled but the wood and metal siding still remains in a pile. Keystone Point is now the location of a TV reflector and radio recieving station.

The panoramic view at the 3880 ft. elevation includes landmarks such as the Entiat Mountains, Chelan Mountains, the Entiat River valley, and the Columbia River. On a good day you should also be able to see Chumstick Mountain, once site of another lookout tower. There is a cache there. To get there, go back down to the Entiat Ridge Road, and follow it to the Entiat Ridge summit, and north to Chumstick Mountain. Looking north up the Entiat Valley near Ardenvoir, is the location of an intact lookout where you can find another cache with a nice view, Steliko Point Lookout,

To get to Keystone Point Lookout from Entiat, follow the Entiat River Road approximately 3 miles. Note: At mile marker 2, look left. See the peak, that's Keystone Point. That's where the cache is...on top. Turn left at Mills Canyon Road (also called Entiat Ridge Road) and follow your gps to the cache. You can park within 0.1 mile from the cache. The 0.1 mile hike to the summit has a 200 ft. elevation gain.

When you get to the top you will see the remains of the lookout tower next to the masonry building. All that remains is a pile of timber, old lumber, and twisted metal siding. Proceed past the rust colored rock to the cache and enjoy the view.
