Sally is a multi-cache with a theme, the theme for Sally is a cache
for girls, please try and bring trade items that would appeal to
girls. There is a stage and a final for Sally, allow an hour or
more for the entire walk, this would not include any search time.
If you search for the stage without the clue it will be more
difficult.
There are very few elevation changes and good pathways will take
you near Sally, no bushwhacking is required. The cache
search begins on asphalt trails but ends on unpaved foot
trails.
The stage was selected so that the search area is clearly
defined by a feature. An excellent place to start is the kiosk, if
you find the pelican then you are in the right place, then look for
a reddish shale path. There is no best season to visit this cache
but the fall offers tremendous bird watching opportunities, berry
picking is not allowed because the berries here are a major food
source for many birds. The river is not suitable for swimming but
in the summer there are plenty of places for kids to stop and skip
stones, you are sure to see pelicans or geese. There are washrooms
available at this location and they are accessible during the
winter months but only during kiosk hours. You may encounter black
widow spiders or rattlesnakes when walking anywhere around Medicine
Hat, they are not common but they are not unusual. When you locate
Sally you need to approach the final cache hiding spot on the side
away from the park pathway. There is a largish log (8') which is
set up so that it can be rolled away from the downed tree giving
access to the cache. The log rolls on other logs that are paced
underneath so it shouldn't be frozen to the ground. There is an
obvious place to sit and sign the log a short distance from the
cache, this will help keep the location of the cache protected from
inadvertant discovery. You should be able to see others coming from
a ways so you shouldn't get surprised.
The cache container is an ammo can. Please replace the stage in
the same place it was found. It is very important to replace the
cache in the same place making sure it is well hidden, this will
ensure success for the next searcher.
There is a parking waypoint provided. This cache may become
inaccessible in the winter if there is substantial snow cover
Please let others know how you feel about this cache by making an
entry in the online log here on geocaching.com
