Jernverket Eidsfos Værk ble grunnlagt i 1697, og stedet
vokste etter hvert fram til et selvstendig samfunn med bl.a. egen
justis, skole og kirke. Eidsfoss er i dag et unikt og levende
kulturhistorisk miljø med et tyvetalls godt bevarte bygninger fra
perioden 1700-1920.
Eidsfoss hovedgard, med sin hovedbygning fra 1700-tallet
har et fredet park- og hageanlegg. På Eidsfoss finner du også
industrihistoriske samlinger, landhandel, Gamle Eidsfos Kro,
"Kontoret - overnatting", og turistbåten M/S Eikern som går i
chartertrafikk om sommeren.
Eidsfoss is situated by the Eikern Lake in the northern
part of Vestfold. Follow Route 35 towards Hof.
The Iron Works Eidsfos Værk was founded in 1697, and
became an autonomous community with its own legal court, school and
church.
Today, Eidsfoss is a unique living heritage museum with
about 20 well-preserved buildings from the period 1700-1920.
Eidsfoss Manor, with its main house dating from the 18th Century,
has a listed landscaped garden and park.
At Eidsfoss you will also find industrial heritage
exhibitions, a general store, Gamle Eidsfos Kro (tavern), overnight
accommodations. The tourist boat MS Eikern during the
summer.
