While I have never been that fond of cemetery caches this one is a little different for me. My mother and father are both laid to rest not far from where this cache is placed.
Shortly after her second marriage my mother was told that at the age of 41, it was not possible for her to have any more children. Nine months later she was rocking a cradle with yours truly in it. Even though my parents were just beginning to enter the so called good years, they both went into parenthood with great vigor. They would take me along on their vacations and seldom was I left with a babysitter.
My father was a hard working man who left his native home of Minnesota at the age of 18 to join the Army Air Corp. Stationed at Bowman Field in Louisville he would go on to fight in WW2. After the war Lester worked for an Electrical Contractor on Frankfort Avenue.
My mother’s family came from the small town of Rhodelia in Meade County and settled in the Camp Taylor area outside of Louisville. Peggy had 3 children from a previous marriage and was your typical leave it to beaver mom.
The two of them met in 1961, married in 62 and had me on March 8, 1963 (3863) (Ironically I was born exactly on the same day as their 1st anniversary). I enjoyed my childhood but always knew that someday they would not be there. This happens to everyone at some point in their life, it happened to me at the age of 37. That is why this place is a little different for me. This is my story and I hope you enjoy your visit to my special place, while you’re here, say hi for me.
