Geocache Description:

On rare hot summer days this area resembles a beautiful grotto you might see in the Caribbean. In the winter it's more like the frozen outer ring of Hell. Trust me go only in the summer :) There are at least 18 geocaches within a six mile radius of Colliers so that fact (plus the beautiful scenery) makes it definitely worth a trip out from the city.

This is a very scenic area with fantastic views of Colliers, Conception, Bull Cove, Brigus, Bell Island, Holyrood and even out as far as Cape St. Francis on a clear day.

The "Land's End Lagoon" has it's own tiny waterfall dropping off the cliffs into the ocean so you'll be able to more easily identify that you are in the right area.

Unfortunately the terrain to the cache is very difficult in places with lots of ups and downs and switchbacks. Sort of similar to what you might find on the Spout Trail, but not nearly as well marked. Suggest this cache for only very experienced geocachers.

This should be a pretty easy find, but only if you can actually reach the location in question :)

The challenge lies entirely in getting out to the lagoon as safely and efficiently as possible. Bring a camera, because on a clear day, the trip out is definitely worth the effort :)

Going off track in this area could eventually result in you getting into a major "bushwhacking" exercise that would not be much fun. To help below are some suggested starting and intermediate coordinates.

There is no direct path anywhere, but if you go almost to the end of nearby Bacon Cove you'll be able to park/start near coordinates:

N 47.29.543
W 053.09.897

Proceed roughly along the coastline (keeping well back from the cliff edges as much as possible) to coordinates:

N 47.30.228
W 053.09.938

From there you are on your own. Sticking relatively close to the coast and following the rough but faint footpath will eventually get you there.

Please don't even think about climbing up or down the cliffs AT ANY TIME regardless of personal expertise. Don't say we didn't warn you :) Take your time and enjoy the great coastal views of Colliers Harbour instead :)

The cache itself is a small white beef bucket. Please take care in rehiding it carefully as this can be an area that gets a number of spectators at times.

This is the tenth in a series of caches being hidden by Flynnsbeach and Bittensticks. Make note of the codewords in the logbooks as there will be a special prize for those geocachers who find ANY TEN of them :)

Care and caution is (as always) advised as the surrounding
rocks can be very slippery when wet, snow covered or icy. Don't head over the cliffs...regardless of what individual GPS readings may say. The cache is NOT anywhere near the edge.

Cache contents at the time of hiding were:

Log Book
Pencils
Sharpener
First Finders Certificate
Tennis Ball
Skate Board
Winnie the Pooh Pencils
Toy Cars
Decorative Glass Trinkets
Toy Combat Planes
Hawaiian Lai (just because this destination reminds me of a Caribbean Grotto …if you get a rare sunny day out here :)

(Also "Spiderman" Travel Bug was dropped in there to allow him to spend some time spinning webs at the Land’s End Lagoon).

Good Luck !!!!

Flynnsbeach and Bittensticks
