Take Brookville Road from MacLellan's Brook to reach a trailhead
at N45 28.531, W62 32.469. The drive to the trailhead
can be muddy and is rough in spots, but it can be done in a car if
you're careful and take your time. There are other roads to get to
the lake from Glencoe and MacLellan's Mountain. In Winter ALL of
these roads are impassible in anything short of a snowmobile,
although snowshoes or skis could work if you don't mind a 5km (one
way and mostly uphill) hike from Brookville.
From the trailhead to the cache it's about a 1km hike along
scenic, easy trails. The last 90 metres or so are cross country
through the woods. Important! Mark a waypoint on the
trail before you duck into the woods to avoid getting lost. You'll
need to hold some branches back and duck your head a few times, but
the ground is for the most part easy going.
The cache site can be reached by canoe, too. If you'd like to do
it that way, drive past the above trailhead and continue on to
N45 28.047, W062 32.624, where you can park beside
the lake.
Due to its remoteness and low traffic, this is not at all a good
place to leave travel bugs or other trackables. There're lots of
more appropriate caches for such things back in town.
This lake is apparently a good place to fish trout, so be sure
to bring the fishing rod along. Be sure to wear hunter's orange if
you're out here in deer season.
Finally, since you came all this way, be sure to
visit the nearby caches by our good buddies the Gum Rubbers crew:
"Valley of the Dogs" and the "Blanchard Series" of caches. All are
excellent hunts, and they'll teach you many things about this
mostly forgotten about part of Pictou County.
Enjoy!
