After spending a day looking for the cave hideout of Lt James Moody (British Loyalist during Revolutionary War) with no success, I was decidedly on the edge. This cache placement may do the same for you.
Depending on your approach, you can dramatically change your efforts to reach the cache. When you get there, please be very careful. As you approach watch the terrain, NOT your GPS screen. The final location is a little hairy.
You would be well advised to rattle the cache area with a stick before reaching around to ensure you don't hear a rattle of another type. While I did not see any snakes in the area while placing, this area is known to have copperheads and rattlers. This spot would certainly hold appeal to them in the warmer months.
The cache is a long green cylinder shaped mortar holder. It will hold moderate sized items although the opening is about 5" at the top.
The wildlife in the area is abundant (as are the hunters at times - remember to wear orange in season), bring your camera and post any good animal picks. Enjoy your hunt!
IMPORTANT NOTES. Pay attention to the ratings, this potentially involves some steep climbs and trecherous decents. A lot of loose rocks and branches require constant attention. The final location is likely not suitable for children. Also be aware that Sussex County New Jersey has many bears and poisonous snakes. Be alert! If you know what to do if you have an encounter, you will enjoy exploring one of the greatest natural resources in Northwest New Jersey.
