This cache is place on Marshall County Conservation Land with permission by the IDNR Park Ranger . Please follow the IDNR rules as as lined out here. 1. Do not place the following items in the Geocache: Food items, inappropriate, offensive, or hazardous materials. 2. It is the visitors responsibility to orient themselves with policies and rules pertaining to this Department managed site.
Just as the Marshall County Conservation Area has more than one parking area on the East side of the river, the same can be said for the West side. I am not giving the coordinates for this one. I hope it is a lot more obvious to the folks that go after this one.
Most of this land was once owned by the Hy-Tex Brick Company that closed sometime in the early 70's, I think. If you go to the park area on the river side and walk down to the river, you will see that it is riddled with bricks. Some have names on them and some don't. There are some with no holes, a few holes, an some with lots of holes. You can spot some that used to be part of the firing oven to bake the bricks. You can tell those by the black burns on them. We found some that had "Laclede Superior Op" and several different letters on them. I also found one that said "AJAX" on it. This got my brain turning and now I am interested in finding some information about this old company that is long gone. This is the main reason the husband likes Geocaching; the history lessons that we learn at a cache or go find out about after Geocaching takes us to an area that has some information for us to dig into.
The writing utensil should now be included. The container is large enough for some small items. I have included a few to start.
