If you look at the Shropshire Hills nowadays they seem quiet. Over 2000 years ago all was different. The hills were covered in Iron Age forts and the valleys full of homesteads. Now all that remains to be seen are the shrunken ramparts of once mighty fortifications.
“Doors of Doom” is the last in a series of 3 caches will take you to see and walk around some of the best Iron Age hill structures in South Shropshire. Each cache contains a board that tells you all about the site, what it was used for and what it would have looked like all those years ago so when you get there just let your imagination run wild.
I have attached a map as a JPG image that shows you a lovely route to take from The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms. www.shropshirehillsdiscoverycentre.co.uk
The complete series of caches are:
Follow the map and park in the large Car park at grid SO 333 839. This is a nice spot to stop and have a picnic and there are information boards that will tell you more about the site. It is a fairly easy walk to the main site entrance from where you just follow the GPS. After you have found the cache make sure you go to the top where you will find a viewpoint and a toposcope telling you what all the hill names are.
I would like to thank the Forestry Commission who own the land for their kind permission to place the cache and to Shropshire County Council for their help in setting up this series
