Geocache Description:

Just park your canoe at the cache creek dam and you will be a mere 40 meters away from this geocache.

As of May 1st 2008 you will have to get a permit to camp in this area. Goto (visit link) for more information.

This ammo box geocache is located on administered land at the south end of Big East Lake near Carnarvon. The cache is sitting on the ground between a few trees and covered by a large piece of bark. The actual location of the cache is not that spectacular but your journey to it will be.

You will have to bring your own canoe or rent one along Highway 11 before you get here. The cache is just over 3 kilometers away from the parking lot (about one hour of paddling one way). Parking is on the south side of Highway 118 at °45 02.290 °78 55.812. This is a large parking lot but it is not marked and you could easily miss it so make sure you mark it as a waypoint.
There are a number of campsites along the lake and on Shelter Island but if there are more than twenty vehicles parked in the lot your campsite choices on The Big East will be very slim. You will then probably find more campsite options on the north side of the highway. Purchasing the “Poker Lake Area” map published by Chrismar Mapping (The Adventure Map) will help you plan your adventure. Another excellent reference book is Kevin Callan’s “A Paddler’s Guide To Ontario’s Cottage Country”

While in the area don’t forget to do Fire Eater’s “Surviving Cinder Lake” geocache (GCG7QR) and "Big E" by timm0n (GCNX63).
