This is a microcache. And a puzzle if you wish to visit her resting place. It is about 1.3 miles (as a crow flys) between locations. The coordinates above are to the black geocaching capsule container. Bring your own writing utensil. REMINISCE about what you may have learned, and how people make our lives safer.
Having been in the U.S. Coast Guard I felt compelled to to honor her with a cache. The Coast Guard has named their new buoy tenders after lighthouse keepers. In 1995 the USCGC Ida Lewis was the first one to be named. There is a good history of Ida Lewis at the 1st location and web sites below.

But all the information is provided to you here and at a sign (N 41 28.571 W 71 19.301). This is near BM LW2870 The Ida Lewis Light, formerly known as the Lime Rock Light(on private property but within view) and the sign there will answer your other questions. Please bring own pen and paper and info on BM LW2870.

xx = The # of days Giovanni da Verrazano anchored in Newport Habor +(PLUS) # of letters in the 1st word of the designation of LW2870
zzz = The Newport Gas Light Company operated a coal gasification utility plant from this date -(MINUS) 940
You will want to drive to these coordinates. Be careful of traffic in Newport as streets are small and have one way's.
