Geocache Description:

This cache is a Wilson tennis ball can that is hidden near the old railroad depot in Pacific Grove. It is very near Asilomar State Beach which has many enjoyable trails to have an easy, relaxing walk.

This cache is hidden along a slightly inclined, but still easy, walking path that takes you behind the new storage yards near Asilomar State Beach. This is once where the railroad depot was in Pacific Grove many years ago. This railroad went from here all the way along the coast north (now the Recreational Trails along the water).

This is a regular cache (a tennis ball container) so only small or medium sized items and small or medium travel bugs will fit.

The original contents of the cache are as follows:

1 logbook
1 pen
1 rubber animal ball
1 Legoland or Bust Travel Bug
1 American Flag ribbon lapel pin
1 digital fish
1 greeting message

The start of your journey will be here N 36* 36.961 W 121* 56.144 (you will see three black lava rocks in a pile at the start of the trail near the street). To start your adventure you will want to park in the surrounding areas on the side streets. Cross over busy Sunset Ave. and start your short walk where you see three black lava rocks in a formation (they are plainly visible from the street). You will see that a dirt trail meanders back through the buildings and up a hill. After a short walk you will be at the spot. It is just off the right side of the trail. You may want to check the clue on this one because the coordinates are a little off sometimes in this area.

After you find the cache, if you try to plow your way a little further into the small pine trees, you will pop out and find yourself staring out towards hole #14 at Spanish Bay Golf Links. If you turn around and continue up the trail you will end up walking amongst hole #13, 12, 11, 10, and 9 of Spanish Bay. This relatively easy graded trail meanders through Pebble Beach for about 2-2.5 miles past the cache and ends up at Spanish Bay beach, a popular destination for surfers. If you decide not to go on this hike you can double back to the three lava rocks at the start of the trail and walk to .2 miles to the Bay trail system that meanders through native vegetation and gradually becomes a boardwalk along Asilomar State Beach. If after your hike you find yourself a little hungry and enjoy seafood, the Fishwife is an excellent choice with reasonable prices and the casual walk-ins are welcome. You cannot miss it right next the the start of the trail.
