Welcome to Trapper Creek! This is a beautiful hiker/boater campground on the northeast shores of the UPPER Priest Lake. There is no towing of any kind allowed on the Upper Lake, and a no-wake restriction on the thorofare, so this is a great place to canoe or kayak. There is a canoe portage at Beaver Creek Campground, on the northwest part of the main Priest Lake. If you prefer hiking, you can hike down to the lake on a great scenic trail from the north. Either way you do it, it’s well worth the trip. This will be an all-day adventure, so bring water, a lunch, a swimsuit, and probably bug spray, along with the other of the 7 essentials. Don’t forget your hiking boots, the trail had a bit of mud when I placed the cache, and it’s all-terrain.
Getting there: Take hwy 57 from Priest River, 22 miles PAST Nordman, ID. The road turns to gravel just past Nordman, and is a bit pot-holey & rutty in spots. A mile from the parking area, you will take the road to the right. Parking area is on the left side of the road, trail is on the right side. This hike is over 4 miles long EACH WAY, so figure on 2 hours each way, plus caching & play time.

The cache is a 50-cal ammo can, chock-full of goodies. You will probably want to check the spoiler pics and the hints on this one, as it is in heavy tree cover. There is another cache that you may want to find on the way, the Upper Priest Lake cache. Also, remember to pack it in, pack it OUT, and of course, no food, liquids or smelly items in the cache (i.e. hand sanitizer, candles, lotion, cigars, potpourri, etc.) Be safe, and have a great time at one of my all-time favorite hikes!
