Geocache Description:

I am constantly getting credit card offers in the mail. Some of these offers include a sample plastic card, complete with logo and a fake name and account number. So I’ve created a puzzle multicache that uses several of these fake credit cards.

UPDATE 7/1/06: THERE HAVE BEEN SOME CHANGES SINCE THE ORIGINAL LISTING. STAGES 1 AND 2 ARE THE SAME AS BEFORE, BUT THE OTHERS ARE IN NEW LOCATIONS DUE TO ACCESS RESTRICTIONS. THE DESCRIPTION BELOW REFLECTS THE NEW PLACEMENTS, WHICH ARE ALL LOCATED BETWEEN SWARENS AVENUE AND THE TEMPORARY FENCES. IT'S A GREAT AREA TO VIEW THE MOUNTAINS, SUNSETS, AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW RESORT.

There are 4 stages. You will be looking for hidden credit cards in the first three stages. The fourth stage is the cache itself, with the container being slightly larger than a sandwich.

At least one edge of each credit card is in plain view without moving or lifting anything. You do not need a flashlight, just sharp eyes.

Coordinates for the first stage: Listed at the top of the page.

Coordinates for the second stage: Use information from the credit card found at the first stage.
N 44° 01.ABC
W 121° 21.CBD
Where:
A is the 7th digit of the 15-digit account number,
B is the 9th digit of the 15-digit account number,
C is the 4th digit of the 15-digit account number, and
D is the 8th digit of the 15-digit account number.

Coordinates for the third stage: Use information from the credit card found at the second stage.
N 44° 01.XXX
W 121° 21.YYY
To obtain XXX, consider the last three digits of the 14-digit account number as a three-digit number, then multiply that number by 6, then add 64.
To obtain YYY, consider the first four digits of the 14-digit account number as a four-digit number, then divide that number by 13, then subtract 7.

Coordinates for the cache: Use information from the credit card found at the third stage.
N 44° 01.XXX
W 121° 21.YYY
To obtain XXX, you must solve the following puzzle:
Look for a 2-word phrase on the credit card. One of the words is a color.
Rearrange (anagram) all the letters in the two words to form two new words, where each new word is a creature that lives in the water.
Assign a numerical value to the first letter of each new word, based on the position in the alphabet. A=1, B=2, C=3, and so on.
Multiply the value of the first letter of one of the words by 25, and make a note of this number. Then multiply the value of the first letter of the other word by 68, and make a note of that number.
XXX = the sum of those two numbers, and must be between 100 and 999.

To obtain YYY, it’s a lot easier. Consider the fourth, fifth, and sixth digits of the 14-digit account number as a three-digit number, subtract 1 from it, and divide the result by 3.
