Geocache Description:

Another cache in the Summits and Peaks series.

There are three easily accessible mountains in Cypress Provincial Park -- Black Mountain, Mount Strachan, and Hollyburn Mountain. They form a hiking loop, and all three peaks can be accomplished in a single day of hiking.

The trail to Hollyburn Mountain is accessible only from the Baden-Powell Trail, so there are quite a few options on where to begin your hike.

A gnarled tree just east of the peak (this is not the cache location).

The cache is hidden just west of the peak, in a small grove among the granite. Find a 4 metre stump, with another stump lying diagonally against it. Where the diagonal stump touches the ground, you'll find the cache covered by bark. (See "The Cache Location" photo below for a visual on the location as described.)

The cache is a small 3 inch round lock & lock, painted green. It contains nothing except a logbook, a pencil, and a sharpener. No cache gifts are necessary (pins, pendants, geocoins, and very small travel bugs exempt). It would probably be better to save the plastic McGarbage and business cards for the city caches. If you come up here, the reward is in the hike, the exercise, and the beautiful views.

This cache will not be accessible in the winter, very likely buried under many metres of snow.

Visit the Cypress Provincial Park website for trail maps and other important hiking information.
