This cache is on a landmark that can be seen from Round Hill to Port Sorell. It is the part of the Dial Range that it derives its name from.
A Gnomon, I'm reliably informed, is the 'sticky up bit' (bear with me if this is too technical) on a sun dial. And this gonomon certainly resembles that.
The view from near GZ is astounding allowing views on a clear day down to the eastern entrnace to the tamar and also Mt Roland, VanDyke, the Western Tiers and everything in between. It also Looks Directly at Mt Duncan on which, funnily enough, the Dial two for Duncan cache resides.
The Dial range is, in my humble opinion, one of the most underrated bushwalking areas in the state. Not only does it provide some of the best Bushwalking I have done in Tassie to date, It also caters for Horse riding, Mountain Bike Riding, Trailbike Riding, and Bugle Playing, plastic hat wearing weirdos.
If you take the Kids with you on this one keep an eye on them near GZ as there is a rather large cliff face very nearby.
The cache was replaced with a new one on 09/02/2015. The container is a Team Tiges PVC v2. I didn't have the best accuracy at the time so you may need to use the hint. If anyone finds the coords to be out please send me more reliable ones.
Note - Many thanks to Dippy for her help maintaining this over the years! :)
