Watch Your Step Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

sgrenfro: It's officially gone. [:(] Given that it only lasted long enough for one actual finder, it appears this isn't such a good spot for a cache after all so we're going to archive rather than replace. For future reference is a nicer spot near an intermittent creek (but with poorer signal coverage) about 1/4 mi. north.

Geocache Description:

We noticed a gap along the Flat Frog Trail on our Memorial Day hike around Frog Lake loop, so we filled it in with a 2.7qt square Lock & Lock container. Beware of the coords; there was lots of tree cover in this narrow canyon.

We came out on this Memorial Day with Grandma Jane to hike Frog Lake loop, with a few out-and-back segments to grab caches. The day was filled with beautiful weather (pretty mild for this late in May), an abundance of wildflowers, a great collection of caches, and not too many other people. Thanks to Team Nazgul, WalruZ, bullit, and Marky & Joani, the kids could look forward to a cache every 1/3rd mile or so (I liked that too, of course ) . Except that we discovered a gap along the way back where two Flat Frog Trail caches were actually more than 1/2 mile apart. This cache sits almost evenly between those them.

Along this section of trail, the park staff and volunteers have built a nice staircase. For most of this segment, you'll have to watch your step because the first one is a real doozy. About midway along the steps, however, it's actually the second or third step that's the one to avoid; the first step is relatively safe. The cache container is a medium size, unpainted Lock & Lock. Initial contents included a 2005 CITO T-Shirt, a compass, a Nickel City Coupon, some stickers, a bracelet, a little ceramic trinket, and whatever else the kids contributed when I wasn't looking. There's also a special FTF prize paper-clipped to the logbook.
