Geocache Description:

A new memorial that has been a year in developing and is dedicated to the Civilian Conservation Corps.

This cache is in a Kansas State Park and there is a vehicle entry fee.
October 1 to March 30 is $5.50
April 1 to September 30 is $6.50
Vehicle entry fee of seniors 65 and over is discounted
October 1 to March 30 is $3.25
April 1 to September 30 is $3.75

If the entrance collection booth is not open, self pay can be done at 37 38.670 N and 094 48.876 W, or a permit can be obtained at the park office at 37 38.728 N and 094 48.737. This permit is good for any Kansas State Park & Recreation area.

This is my 6th cache at this park so that paying the entry fee might not seem so bad. Permission for placing caches has been obtained from the park manager.

I have been patiently waiting for a year for this wonderful CCC memorial to be completed so I could use it for a geocache. The memorial is dedicated to the Civilian Conservation Corps, who built this lake and numerous projects across the United States. The memorial has a fun and educational walking trail that includes outdoor displays with information stops along the trail.

If anyone does not know what the CCC is, there is a wealth of information on the internet and it makes for fascinating reading and an insite into the history of the Depression Era that plagued America.

This cache starts at the center of the outdoor memorial where there is a statue of a CCC worker and a display of the history of the CCC. Then you will follow the asphalt trail in a clockwise direction and answer questions that you will find at the information stops. Answering the questions correctly gives you the coordinates for the final cache. Parking is obvious and is in front of the center of the memorial.

The final cache is located at 37 AB.CD8 and 094 EF.GH5. Find the correct answer and plug the number into these coordinates

After you get the final coordinates, the trailhead to the final cache starts at 37 38.634 and 094 48.835. This is a nice wide mowed trail. You will follow the trail until approximately 40 feet from the cache site, then there is a small faint unmaintained trail made by fishermen from the main trail to the cache site that you will follow for 40 feet. There should be very minimal brushwacking here.

The cache container is a genuine SASO ammo box and contains various items for trade.

Entire walking distance is about a half mile and the terrain includes paved paths, mowed paths, and an unmaintained path for a short distance. The terrain is level.
