Geocache Description:

This cache is at the Hatfield homestead near Shandon, California. Mr. Hatfield had a house with attached barn in the field on the North side of the road. At one time this was a stage stop, primarily for layover to change horses on long routes.

The stones in the field are all thats left of the house. Mr. Hatfield was found hung by the neck from the charred rafters of his house by one of the Twisselmans,in the 1890's. The sheriff was summoned, but nothing was ever proven. Popular belief is that bandits stole the money he had recieved from stage passengers, then hung him and tried to burn the cabin to eliminate any evidence. His money stash was found and confiscated by the sheriff, but it was only half full, which wasn't unusual because it was always half full.
Cache is a medium peanut butter jar, well hidden. Please replace exactly as you found it.
