Geocache Description:

Harefield ‘Grand Union’ Series. #6

If you are coming from ‘tree fingers’ or ‘2 bridges’ you’ll find a handy
little bridge over the Grand Union.

Harefield pit was one of many chalk quarries in the area which produced lime for the cement industry. The pit was used as a landfill site and was filled by water approximately 30 years ago, after which only the top of the
Upper Chalk and overlying Upnor and Reading Formations and London Clay remain exposed in the remaining eastern wall.

Before turning into a fisherman’s dream the Quarry has been used for a number of film locations, including the Mercedes over the cliff scenes in Goldfinger, and in Doctor Who.

This cache is not placed within, or anywhere near the SSSI.

The complete series of 6 caches will take about 2.5 hours.
