Welcome to The Maxinkuckee Trail located in beautiful Culver, Indiana. Lake Maxinkuckee is the 2nd largest lake in Indiana at c.3 mi/4.8 km long. It’s glacially formed with an average depth of 88ft/27m. This lake is a prime walleye location also offering bass, bluegill, crappie and yellow perch hooking. There’s a public swimming beach, and an 11-mile bicycle trail. The Maxinkuckee Trail is placed in the name of the long time settlers who once roamed the area. You will find a two stage cache challenge. Bring your best Geocaching skills. Like the early settlers, nothing is easy. PLEASE be watchful to your environment. The early settlers respected their land and you too will see why the 1st stage needs to be respected. Watch your step and your surroundings but enjoy the area, remembering how the early settlers used this area in order to survive. Trapping was part of surviving with the reward being fur for warmth or meat for food. Your reward is given once you trap your first stage. Trapping centers around the 1st stage but hunting is the 2nd stage. Here you will hunt down the final reward. Early hunters were smart with a keen understanding of how paths worked and how animals roamed. As a Geocacher you have the opportunity to use your past hunting skills in finding the 2nd stage. Understanding the wooded paths and past cache finds will guide you to your success. But like the clever fox, the hunter at times did come up empty handing. Will you? The only hint I will give is coordinates for parking and a helpful clue to find the 1st stage. Try not to use either one if possible. 2nd stage is an ammo box, and can hold TB's and has many great trade items. Both are well hidden and please place back like you found them. Please report on caches condition if needed. Also be mindful when writing out your log. Any hints or clues given will be deleted. Enjoy.
