Geocache Description:

“MICHIGAN SPIRIT QUEST”

The MICHIGAN SPIRIT QUEST series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by MICHIGAN Pioneers. This series is inspired by and a continuation of the Indiana Spirit Quest caches created by SixDogTeam. In just over a year and a half, the SPIRIT QUEST has grown to over three hundred thirty caches and the hiders have grown to seventeen cacher teams, most of which are comprised of Dogs and their Humans. Over 700 cachers have logged over 8,000 finds. One cache machine found 102 ISQ caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

MICHIGAN SPIRIT QUEST #3

"Pushing up Flowers"

WELCOME TO Batavia Cemetery in Batavia, Branch county, Michigan. Please be respectful while here. This cemetery is the final resting place of a famous woman from Batavia. Lizzie Whitlock was "The Original Fat Lady of the Circus". She was born in British Columbia in 1853 and she joined the circus at the age of 14. She was reputed as being the fatest woman in the U.S. Lizzie traveled with many outfits including Barnum and Bailey's. She was married three times and had four children. When she died in 1899 she weighed 650 pounds and to remove her body they had to remove the windows in the front of her house. If you get the chance to stop by the Wing House Museum in Coldwater you can see a pair of her shoes that were specially made for Lizzie by the Bee Hive shoe store. Lizzie died before she had the chance to go pick them up. Its well worth the stop, just to see the shoes. Check this site to see when the museum is open and try to stop by while your here. www.wingmuseum.org
