Newburgh Lake Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

michigan_chris: From the last log, stage one is definitely gone. Stage 2 has gone missing a couple times previously. This one has become too hard to maintain from Illinois. I'll archive this one so the area is opened up for a new cache.

Geocache Description:

This 3-stage multi-cache is located along the perimeter of Newburgh Lake. There is ample parking at the trailhead at N42° 22.182 W83° 26.124

The first 2 stages are micros and the final stage is a medium sized round plastic container with camo tape.

There are definite trails to the first two stages, while the final stage requires some very light bushwhacking for the last 50 feet. The high terrain rating is only for the areas right at the stage 1 and 2 coordinates. 90% of your overall hike on this cache will be more like a 1.5 terrain. The terrain may be extra challenging if wet or icy.

Newburgh Lake was originally constructed as a millpond around 1819. In 1935, the old mill was demolished by Henry Ford and replaced with a new "Village Industry Plant". After years of degradation, a restoration project for Newburgh Lake began in April 1997 and was completed in October 1998.

Today, the lake is part of the Rouge River Watershed and used for hiking, biking, and fishing. There are also paddleboat rentals available nearby.
