When I learned about geocaching I decided I had to put a cache on this trail. I like hikes best that have something special to look forward to, like a lake or a waterfall--a destination! A geocache was a perfect solution to a hike which otherwise doesn’t have such a goal, not within MY hiking range anyway. Keep an eye out for wildflowers and hummingbirds, and enjoy the journey!
This is a themed cache after the name of this trail. Please trade items with some connection to vision, eyesight or the lack of it.
In spring and early summer, be prepared to cross a shallow and rocky stream no less than a dozen times. You may also need to detour around fallen trees and melting snow patches, and hike in the stream for a few yards. According to Cache Trails, 2004 ed., the hike to the cache is a nearly constant climb from 5760 feet to 7120 feet over 2.4 miles (from the signed trailhead). It is best suited for foot or horse traffic, rather than mountain bikes. Plan for at least 2 hours in, 1 hour out. There is roadside parking at the trailhead on U.S. 89. You can also park at the Temple Fork junction about 0.5 miles up the canyon, though it will add about 1 mile to the hike round-trip.
