The second in a series of fire lookout caches.
Red Mountain Lookout has sweeping views of Indian Heaven Wilderness, Mt Adams, Mt Hood, eastern Oregon in the distance, and more. It used to be easy to get to via FS 6048 but the road is gated closed due to washouts. Hike in from Forest Road 60 along the Pacific Crest Trail to Indian Racetrack, or take the Indian Racetrack trail from Forest Road 65. Yes, you will need Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest map to locate these trails, but you will need one anyway.During WWII this lookout was staffed year-round as part of the Aerial Warning Service. This is a good family outing, with great scenery. Cache contains a disposable camera, so take pictures of yourself, your friends, etc.
