The underground Cannon Mine was in operation for 10 years and in 1996 was plugged, regraded and replanted. The mine produced 1.25 million ounces of gold and 2 million ounces of silver. Cannon Mine was a major producer of gold in the U.S. and the second largest underground mine in the U.S.
In 2003, the Commissioner of Public Lands presented the Recognition for Reclamation Award to Asamera Minerals, Inc. for their exemplary reclamation efforts at Cannon Mine. Asamera’s reclamation efforts at the Cannon Mine exemplify some of the best approaches to protecting and restoring habitat.

The trail starts at parking coordinates N47 23.797 W120 19.784. The 0.3 mile walk is easy, even for kids. Enjoy the view at the top of the rock (the mine entrance was just below this rock).
