The Navigatorz: This has been muggled twice. I think by those furry rock chucks. I give up.

Geocache Description:

The trail to the cache takes you through an area that used to be the Cannon Mining operations (see photo).

THEN....

....and NOW

The underground Cannon Mine was in operation for 10 years and in 1996 was plugged, regraded and replanted. The mine produced 1.25 million ounces of gold and 2 million ounces of silver. Cannon Mine was a major producer of gold in the U.S. and the second largest underground mine in the U.S.

In 2003, the Commissioner of Public Lands presented the Recognition for Reclamation Award to Asamera Minerals, Inc. for their exemplary reclamation efforts at Cannon Mine. Asamera’s reclamation efforts at the Cannon Mine exemplify some of the best approaches to protecting and restoring habitat.

Take a look at the top photo and compare that to what you see during your walk to the cache.

The trail starts at parking coordinates N47 23.797 W120 19.784. The 0.3 mile walk is easy, even for kids. Enjoy the view at the top of the rock (the mine entrance was just below this rock).
