Geocache Description:

310 meters walk from you car, small box near an old, ruined tower.

Village Ádánd lies near the Sio-canal, 10 km far form Lake Balaton.
When Árpád dynasty ruled Hungary, it was the feud of the Szalók-clan. It became a market-town in 1356. The Turkish thraldom ruined it. Replanted in the 18th century; the Csapody-castle (today agricultural college) and the catholic temple built that time. A diploma from 1256 states that five small villages existed that time, one of them was Hetye, where the ruin of the Árpad-age temple is still can be found. Originally it was built in 13th century in roman style, decorated with gothic ogives in 14th century, but today only the church tower is standing, in the middle of a field land. Country-folks call it “Turkish-remain”. At the end of the 19th century István Szabó archaeologist led a digging here, where they found among others skeletons, earthenware, horseshoes, iron fibulas, iron pictures and silver medallions. It seems to me that “private archaeologists” are continuing the digging, since many dip and hole waves the land around the tower.

Leaving village Ádánd heading East, there are two possible ways to approach. The harder is to turn to the right at the first crossing to a nice cart-road where you can leave your car at 450 meters distance from the tower, but the walking way is delicate, you can experience it. To go easy choose the other way, leaving the border of the village go ahead 500-600 meters, than turn to the right to an awful cart-road. You can near the tower to 310 meters, and walk in the boundary of two land fields.
