Welcome
back to Dark Hollow Woods! This area is also known as Satler
Memorial Park. This cache is set up to give you a full tour of
Dark Hollow Woods. Depending on your route, there should
really only be one steep climb. My recommendation is to do the
stages in the order that I have them listed. The total hike
should be around a mile. If you come up with a better route
for the stages, please post it so that others can try it out.
I've also included a trail map to help you navigate the trails
throughout the park. At the time of this posting there are 3
other caches in the vicinity: Library of Yahtuul (GCB81D),
Dark Hollow Capers (GCAB54), and Birding Creek (GCNWPG).
This cache is setup as a math problem. Similar to our cache "A
Panther Looks to the Stars", you will visit multiple locations in
the park to get numbers that you will use in the determination of
the final coordinates. Once again, remember the order of operations
(PEMDAS). If you don't know them, look it
up. If you still can't get the order of operations correct,
substitute the proper numbers for their letter representation and
then paste the formula into a google search. Google has a wonderful
calculator that does proper order of operations. Good luck!

Directions: Find the wooden sign. How many letters are
on the entire sign? This number will be referred to as
"C"
STAGE 4: N 40 31.272 : W 079
49.111
Directions: Find the tree with names and initials
carved into it. The sequence you seek is above the name "DANA" and
is in a 2 character + 2 character format such as "DD + BO". Convert
the four letters to their number equivalent (i.e. A=1, B=2, ...,
Z=26) and then add the four numbers together. This number will be
referred to as "Y"
STAGE 5: N 40 31.262 : W 079
49.155
Directions: How many boards are on top of the structure
that you are standing on? This number will be referred to as
"Z"
STAGE 6:
Solve the equations based on the values that you have retrieved
from around the park.
Part 1: ggg = (A x 3) + B + C + Y + Z +
1
Part 2: ddd = ggg+ (Bx6) + Y + Z -
C
FINAL STAGE :
N 40 31.ggg : W 079 49.ddd
The cache is a .30 calibre ammo can that has been camouflaged. When
replacing the cache, please be sure that the lid is tightly secured
and you replace the container
exactly as you have
found it. The cache is located in a low traffic area, however; if
someone sees you take the cache, please take it with you and
contact me. I will replace the cache at a later time.
Note: The trip to the final stage requires no
sudden (read:
no cliff climbing) ascending/descending. Good luck!
