This cache is not far from the Lava Lands Visitor Center. The hike/bike is easy and scenic on a newer trail. Different hike/bike length options exist, depending upon trailhead choice. Other views,vistas, recreation available from both parking areas.
Different approaches may be made to the standard cache from two or more areas, via the Blackrock Trail.
Parking is available with a Northwest Forest Pass at the following two locations: 1. N43:54.537' W121:21.382' and
2. N43:55.861' W121:24.792' (Paved roads take you to parking areas.) Shorter hike is from parking area #1.
Although the cache is within the Newberry National Volcanic Monument, there is no lava scrambling necessary. (However, lava is everywhere, and not to be ignored!)
Experienced mountain bikers will find this "easy and fun"..intermediate bikers can also do it with a couple of dismounts.
Clear weather will provide views of numerous peaks of the Central Cascades.
The contents of the cache are in an ammo box and include a variety of items. Altitude of the cache is 4427 ft.
