Geocache Description:

Located on public property just off Nelsville Rd. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT THE CACHE FROM THE HIGHWAY! Please hide the cache as best as you can!

Town Name: Nelsville

Population: Approx. 50

Reason For Becoming a Lost Town: When the lumbering boom ended, the businesses that relied on the lumberjack's money closed down and the town died out.

Town History: Few people realize just west of the highway was a town that was a center for entertainment for the local lumber camps like Michelson and Houghton Lake. Nelsville once had a grocery store and a dance hall. Post office ran from 1906 to 1927. The town was founded by Edward Nelson. In 1922, Nelsville was the scene of a boxing match that ended in the tragic death of a boxer named Samuel Johnson. That was probably the last exciting event in Nelsville. A local depression killed off the rest of the businesses after that. The lost town of Nelsville was located just south of M-55 on S Nellsville Rd. Some streets and homes still exist in the area.

Cache Description: A small, clear plastic container. Please trade with small items only.

Notes of Interest: The cache is located near the turn on Nelsville Rd. Please use caution.
