Welcome to the first of the IHOD (It Happened One Day) series. This is a series of caches we hope to put out for you to learn a little about the history of Burnet County, Texas.
This fort was established in 1849 to protect white settlements from hostile Indians. Named in honor of Col. George Croghan for his service in the War of 1812. It was the headquarters of Company A,Second Dragoons.
You can view the fort at any time but they are only opened April – September on Thurs., Fri., and Saturday. And it’s free.
On the Grounds is a blacksmith's shop, iron works, stage stop, powder house, syrup and candlemaking shops, and homesteads of the period.
