Geocache Description:

This cache is in a grove of trees between Highway 46 and old Highway 466(Jame's Dean's last ride). About 15 years after Dean's crash in 1955, the state transportation dept. realigned the highway.

The side road you park on to retrieve the cache is part of the old highway, up to the metal gates opposite the cache. On the evening of September 30, 1955, James Dean barreled down this hill and into history. At the metal gates, the old road veered slightly to the right, going down the hill. When pulling of the highway, turn left, to the dead end with the trash barrel and barbed wire gate. Do not go up the hill, the only thing up there is a water filtration plant, with plenty of security. Cache is a blue lay's potato chip can. Some stealth is required, as this turnoff does see some use from pipeline maintenance employees going up to the plant on the hilltop, and Hearst Ranch cowboys accessing the adjoining pasture. There is no need to climb the fence. Cache is rated
a 1.5 due to tree cover, and a bit of downhill climbing is required to get the cache.
