Geocache Description:

Open terrain with some open woods. No serious brush or bugs. This cache has two micros and a main cache ammo can.

The coordinates used to describe this multi-cache at the top of the page are to direct you to the parking area of the Kenockee Township Hall.

Kenockee Township was organized under an act of February 9, 1855. The name Kenockee is a Chippewa Indian word and is the only Indian place named in St. Clair County. The meaning given most often is long-legged. Another meaning often attributed to the word Kenockee is crooked.

On April 18, 1881, the Township purchased one-half acre of land from Edward and Bridget Breen for the sum of $30.00, to build a Township hall. Although no official record can be found, telling when the hall was built, it is assumed the hall was built within the year. This piece of land makes the location of the Township hall very near the center of the Township. Although there has often been talk of moving the hall to another location , sentiment for this site and building remains strong. A recent addition to the original Township hall property is the Kenockee Township Park, as of now it is a wide open area with a small woodlot attached at the rear of the park. Development of the park is slow but does continue.

The coordinates for the first micro are as follows:

Z3° 0V.7Y7 N and 082° ZV.XVZ W

Y= The number of letters in the name of the tribe which the word Kenockee is derived, minus the number of letters in the 2nd meaning of the word Kenockee.

X= Take the first digit of the day the Township bought land to build the hall and subtract the 2nd digit of the day (answer should be negative), then take your answer and add each digit of the year the land was purchased to it. Finally subtract the number of letters in Kenockee from your answer and this is X.

Z= Most common number on the front of the Township hall (green Sign), excluding zeros.

V= How many zeros on sign, minus two.
