Geocache Description:

A 35mm microcache located below Hopkinsville's most famous landmark.

On an October night in 1924, Hopkinsville's Central Fire Station burned as the station's 85-foot clock tower struck midnight. Amazingly, the clock bell survived the fire and the fall as the tower collapsed.

In 1925 a new fire station was built on the same site. Two years later the clock tower was completed and the bell reinstalled. This fire station was used until 1964 when the current station was completed.

The old fire station clock tower has since become the symbol of Hopkinsville.

In the Spring of 2008 the fire station opened its doors to the public as the Woody Wifree Fire-Transportation Museum. On display inside are antique Hopkinsville fire trucks and other fire-fighting memorabilia.
